Sirimon Route, Mt.Kenya Climbing Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Sirimon gate Old Moses Camp
The day start from Sirimon gate (2500m) and then trek through forest, bamboo, and rosewood and heather zones to the Old Moses Mountain Hut/Camp. The elevation here is 3300m and offers a very good acclimatization opportunity. Dinner and overnight here.
Day 2: Old Moses Shipton's Camp
After an early breakfast trek to Shipton's camp (4200m). The hike is awesome but a good test on individual endurance on the mountain. The rigorous but exciting trek up takes you across hills and valleys through the entire stretch of the sprawling moorlands where you see several unique and interesting plants and animals including the Giant groundsels and lobelias and the mountain rock hyrax. Lunch is served on the way. Arrival time is early evening.
Day 3: Shiptons Camp
The day is usually used for acclimatization. After breakfast, the guide allows a small elevation up the cliffs so as to have good bonding with climatic conditions as well as have wonderful time to capture the birds and animals found here. Get back to the camp just in time for lunch and then have the afternoon to yourself.
Day 4: Summit and then Old Moses
Leave at 3am up a steep stony quarry that cuts through a cliff clearing visible part towards lower Hall Tarns arriving point Lenana at 6:30am, taking about 3hrs. After the sunrise, descend down, you descend slowly down to Shipton’s Camp for breakfast. After some rest embark on the journey to Old Moses camp through Mackinder’s valley arriving late in the evening. Lunch is served on the way. The camp is relatively warm and here you enjoy the view of Nanyuki town and the Timau plains. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Old Moses camp – Nairobi
After early morning breakfast, descend for 3 hours up to the Sirimon Park gate to catch a vehicle for transfer to Nairobi arriving late afternoon. At the park entrance gate you have the opportunity to bid goodbye to the crew as you appreciate them depending on their services rendered.
