Overview: Sirimon to Naromoru Route, Mt.Kenya Climbing Tour

The Sirimon route approaches Mount Kenya from the plains in the Nanyuki Timau area on the north-west. This route provide a very nice mountain view all the way to the top. The path splits on the moorlands, with the more frequently used route following the Mackinder Valley. There is a less traveled route that traverses through to the Likii North Valley. The camping areas on this route include the Old Moses and Shipton’s Camp.

Overview: Sirimon to Naromoru Route, Mt.Kenya Climbing Tour Itinerary

    Day 1: Old Moses

Drive from Nairobi to Nanyuki at the slopes of Mount Kenya arriving in time for lunch. From here is a short drive, crossing the equator en-route, to the Sirimon Park Gate. Then trek up through magnificent montane forests, bamboo and giant heather zones before reaching the high altitude moorland and the to our first camp- Old Moses Campsite.

    Day 2: Shipton's Camp

After an early breakfast trek to Shipton's camp (4200m). The hike is awesome but a good test on individual endurance on the mountain. The rigorous but exciting trek up takes you across hills and valleys through the entire stretch of the sprawling moorlands where you see several unique and interesting plants and animals including the Giant groundsels and lobelias and the mountain rock hyrax. Lunch is served on the way. Arrival time is early evening.

    Day 3: Mackinder's Camp

Predawn start (3am) for the summit attempt. Up steep screes and a bare rocky track to reach the hikers summit, Pt Lenana in time for sunrise - Kilimanjaro is usually visible 340kms to the south. The climb is on frozen scree going through the Harris tarn and requiring some scrambling on final stretch to reach the summit at 6.30am.Descent via Naromoru route on the opposite end of the peaks to reach Mackinder's camp for breakfast. Later, after a short rest, we embark on the journey to Met station camp via the Teleki Valley getting to the camp early evening.

    Day 4: Met Station Camp

Leaving camp at 0300hrs you hike up the steep scree slopes and glacier to Point Lenana (4985m), the hiker's summit. It is planned that you arrive in time to witness the African Sun rising over the equator, reflect its golden glow on the Majestic peaks of Batian and Nelion – you may feel tired after this demanding adventure but absolutely ecstatic after you've made it to the top. After a brief celebration at the top descend to Makinder's camp (4200m) for breakfast then proceed further down on the Naro Moru Trail to arrive at Met Station early evening.Relax the rest of the evening in readiness of our departure from the mountain tomorrow. Dinner and overnight at the Met Station camp site.

    Day 4: Nairobi

Have early breakfast before your descend to Naro Moru park gate in 2hours, from where you connect the vehicle for transfer for return journey to Nairobi or to your next destination.
